Clarisse.

Genre

90 min. Fiction film. Anthology.

Locations

Colombia. USA.

For centuries, a sacred monstrance once belonging to the Poor Clares Order has been considered cursed, as it is believed that whoever possesses it will ultimately destroy their own destiny. Crafted in 1743 and surviving persecution and threats during times of war, it was hidden, buried, exiled, and finally recovered, to the joy of the people of Tunja.

In modern times, as the Poor Clares Order struggles with poverty, in a society increasingly distant from God and distracted by new values associated with entertainment, sex, wealth, and the excesses of glamour and luxury, turns it into a coveted collector’s item sought after by wealthy men in Colombia and the United States.

Its possession has been paid for with the ruin of merchants, the death of a child prodigy and surrealist poet, the loss of prestige of a renowned French art dealer, and the end of the career of a young and honest American curator who, although she managed to save it from fraudulent hands, lost both her love and her career.

The governments of Colombia and the United States fight over ownership of La Clarisa, while the forces that inhabit it seem to determine its fate and ultimately compel it to return to its place of origin—the place from which it should never have left.
